VBoxHardening.zip (21.54 KiB) Downloaded 19 times VBox1.log (127.66 KiB) Downloaded 21 times VBox.log (126. Multiple logs are attached, unsure which one was the most recent Please note that I want these enabled, it's needed for another product called Bluestacks (it works properly and runs a lot better with them on) This will check if Virtualbox itself is working. Also make a new Ubuntu VM, 2 processors and 2 GB RAM, and a fresh install of the OS. Re: Black Screen/Blinking Cursor on Ubuntu Start. I had enabled hyper v through the Windows Features window (Virtual Machine Platform and Windows Hypervisor Platform). VBox Version: Guest OSses: Windows, Linux. ![]() I'll be attaching the logs, but if you need to know the settings or specs let me know (I believe the logs has my settings too, based on what one person on the forums said). I had read many posts related to this and the causes are always different, I have no idea why this is happening. I select "Install ubuntu", then I get a black screen with an underscore. The virtual machine starts with a purple screen, with icons at the bottom, and then after a short while I get a bunch of options. Reboot the guest after installing the guest additions. Install guest additions from command line. Update the guest OS from TTY ( Host + F1 ): sudo apt update & sudo apt dist-upgrade. ![]() Try a reboot by entering a TTY terminal ( Host + F1) sudo reboot. I start VirtualBox 6.1.16, create a virtual machine, insert the ubuntu iso (ubuntu-20.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso), then I start the virtual machine. If you are stuck on a black screen with cursor while starting Kali Linux on VirtualBox, and hence unable to log in to the system, this video may be of help. Make sure you had installed the most recent version of Virtual Box. Instead, I now have a blinking underscore.(This is fixed in VirtualBox 6.1.22, thank you guys for fixing it!) It has also happened to me that I start Ubuntu and it starts with that black screen with an underscore (or goes to the inital purple screen with the icons at the bottom, then suddenly turns black with a white underscore). I used to have the 'famous' VERR_VMX_NO_VMX error, but removing/uninstalling Hyper-V got rid of the error. Ubuntu, Kali Linux, Windows 10, they all ran properly. So I'm seriously flabbergasted how, all of a sudden, a problem like this arises. I always properly shutdown the image, never had any crashes or whatsoever. If there's some way to browse the Linux image and simply dumping/copying the SQL, that would be fine as well.Īs it seems, I'm afraid this doesn't bode well, any other things I could try? I tried Cltrl+Alt+F1 but nothing happens, but I am able to get to the login screen on my virtual machine and login, but after that there is a black screen. ![]() Restart again and try Ctrl-Alt-F1 at the beginning of the startup (even twice) to see if that works. Unfortunately, doing a re-installation is not that easy as there's a database on the virtual machine that I really can't lose. I had the same problem after a working Kali Linux in VirtualBox 6.1.30 was updated to VirtualBox 6.1.34. I have used Ctrl-Alt-F1 when starting, not after startup has occurred and failed. But I fiddled with the settings, forgot to change it back. The ICH9 chip setting was not there from the begining, it was on PIIX3 by default. Hi, Problem: Trying to install Kali on my Windows 2008 R2 VPS but after clicking any of the Boot Menu options e.g Graphic Install, it keeps showing a frozen blinking underscore black screen or sometimes (1 out of 50 tries maybe) it will go through to the setup page and will get frozen in 'detecting link on enp0s3' message. For that, open VirtualBox on your computer > select the virtual machine > click the Settings button and go to the Display section. Might be worth noting: We even tried to run this image on different Windows-host and MacOSX-host machines, gave the exact same blinking underscore result. I could increase the RAM, but it used to work just fine with the exact same settings before the issues started.
